Why Membership at St. Mark’s?
Our Purpose
At St. Mark’s, we’re a group of like-minded Christians who have united together to fulfill the purpose Christ himself has given: “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:19-20). This means that we not only encourage each other with the gospel message to keep each other strong in the faith, but we also share the message of Christ crucified with those outside of our church fellowship so others can come to know what God has done for them, too.
In order to fulfill this purpose, we regularly meet for worship services, Bible studies, and various other ministries as God provides opportunities. We also support this overall ministry with our thank offerings.
One in Teaching
Since God desires that “all of us agree with one another in what we say and that there be no divisions among us but that we be perfectly united in mind and thought” (1 Corinthians 1:10), we strive for this unity not just in our ministry activity but also in our doctrine. This means St. Mark’s members unite in biblical teaching for the sake of God’s Word, which is the divinely-inspired source of truth. Thus also St. Mark’s is a member of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS), and all of our members are also united in membership with other churches in the synod.
The Blessings
The blessings that come from this unity are numerous. Our church is a close-knit family, with whom we get share life’s ups and downs as we await Christ’s return. We get to give encouragement to each other in worship, prayers, and fellowship events, and we get to receive encouragement from each other when life’s difficulties or our sins try to lead us away from God. We also get to unite together regularly and partake of one of the closest forms of fellowship: the Lord’s Supper (1 Corinthians 10:16,17).

“Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
Hebrews 10:24-25
